It's an easy answer, they send us their press releases.

We want to feature news from all over the world and at all levels of the game from club, local league and international grade. It is however an impossible task for us to visit every site looking for news, so please get you club press man or association PR guru to put us on his mailing list and copy us in to your Press releases. We will use as many as we possibly can.

Better still register for free as a basic member and you can cut and paste anything you write straight into the news and have it published straight away, and it can be tagged to the team it is about in your club pages.

This site has been built to help hockey build its profile in the media and act as an archive for anyone to read at any time. We need your help to make it happen and to make this site the best hockey web site around.

With no fees for basic membership and access there is no excuse for not getting involved and there is plenty of fun to be had as well.

Most competitions will be open to all but prize levels may be different for full members who win.

Our messaging system allows you to make friends requests of other members and communicate with them easily.

Get new teams to your 2009 Festival or event

Whenever or wherever your festival is in 2009 it is always nice to have new teams as visitors, and it can always help boost the fund raising.

One of the main reasons NE14Hockey came into being was to help clubs to promote their events and help the fun side of hockey continue the tradition of the end of season bash. Promoting your event on the site is completely free unless you want to splash out on a banner add which we will design and publish for you for just £20. In the event listing you can enter in as much information as you want to, Detail the accommodation, promote the fun or competitive element and attract new teams to your part of the hockey world.

All you have to do to get your event details on the site is register as a basic member that's free as well and you can add in the details of your event. We will publish it on the site within a day or so. Alternatively if you don't want editorial control then send us an e-mail and we will enter the details for you.

Basic membership gives you access to our messaging system so you can keep in touch with your friends and other members. It also allows you to write news stories about your team or club, and help keep the hockey world informed about your region or country. 2009 will be a big year

Our revamp and upgrade is almost complete and we are about ready to announce our big event for 2009. It will be something you wont want to miss and we will announce the details in January once final arrangements have been made.

Look out for a new competitions after Christmas and chances to win a free website design for your club and free hosting for a year. This will give you the opportunity to get your club on the world wide web and make it easier to communicate to your existing members and attract new ones.

Just like other social network sites you can contribute to NE14Hockey at any time, so use the Forums, news create options, and club information areas whenever you want.

It only remains to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we hope you continue to visit the site during 2009, and we will hope to see you in August at our event and charity fund raising.

England Win Tri Nations Event

A late winner helped England to a 1 pt lead at the top of the Woman's table at this indoor challenge against Australia and Scotland.

In the Men's event Scotland failed to get a point and England and Australia were tied at the top with England edging the Roos out on goal difference.

The fixture and results pages link directly to NE14Hockey and so the information can be easily updated, and only done once. If you have a site already and would just like the results and fixture pages then we can offer you just a widget that will sit on your site and provide the information. CLUB-TRIX is a flexible and easy to use system designed just for field hockey teams, so there are no sections you don't need and nothing that needs adapting to our sport.

As many people in your club as you need can be given editing and administration rights so the job of writing match reports and keeping the site topical does not fall to one person. To be an administrator you just need to register on Ne14Hockey as a basic member, which of course is FREE, so why not do it today and get your club on the world wide web.

The best bit is that you don't need a degree in computing to use the systems. We will help you in the early stages if you have any problems getting used to the navigation and getting round the site. The match reports and news are as easy to write as e-mails and creating fixtures and putting in results is quick and simple too.

The design of the site is FREE but if you need us to host it for you then there will be a small charge for that and for the domain name

GB funding incresed for 2012

UK Sport, which funds the Olympic and Paralympic sports for their elite activities today announced that hockey would be receiving £14.1m for the four year period 2009-2013 for the build up to and preparation for the London 2012 Olympics. At about £3.5m per annum this is about a 25% increase on the annual funding that was provided for the recent Olympiad.

Richard Leman, President of Great Britain Hockey and a gold medallist from the 1988 Olympics said:

This is fantastic news for hockey. I am delighted the progress that we have made over the last few years has been recognised by UK Sport and that they have backed us with sufficient funding to deliver the necessary athlete support, run the right number of training camps and be able to participate in all the relevant tournaments in the next few years. We are aiming high for London 2012 and this will give us the tools to give our committed elite players the best opportunity for success.

Competing on home soil in 2012 will be a tremendous incentive for our athletes and I know that the whole group and the coaching support team will do their utmost to deliver success in 2012.

Team sports do require a high base level of funding for them to function and we are all appreciative that the government has backed UK Sports Mission 2012 programme.

Philip Kimberley, Executive Chairman England Hockey, which has the dual responsibility of preparing the squads on behalf of Great Britain Hockey said:

Im delighted with this funding news; for the last three months there has been a lot of uncertainty as to whether such funding would be forthcoming and we have lobbied hard both publically and behind the scenes. Now we can get down to the business of implementing our plans for the next four years.

I know that our fifth place finish for the men and sixth for the women in Beijing has given us a strong platform from which to build. Of the 33 athletes that went to Beijing, 26 went for the first time and many will be competing for 2012 places. This increased funding will enable us to give our athletes that little bit more support to put everything they need in place to maximise their chances of success.

GB youth head for OZ

The British Olympic Association (BOA) today announced the 16 women and 16 men who will compete for Team GB in hockey at the fifth Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) in Sydney in January. Two travelling reserves have also been named for each squad.

Four members of the 2007 GB Youth womens team will are set to return to Australia to defend the title they won two years ago. Laura Bartlett, Susie Gilbert, Maddie Hinch, and Sarah Page were all present in the side that won Gold after beating the hosts 4-2 in the final, while two more members of the 2009 squad, Katie Long and Dilly Newton, were travelling reserves on that occasion.

Laura Bartlett comes into the squad on the back of competing for Great Britain at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she replaced the injured Jennie Bimson for the games against Japan, USA and Australia. In addition to senior international Bartlett, Susie Gilbert has 12 Great Britain caps from her time in the senior training squad prior to the Beijing Olympics. She was also part of the BOAs Britains Olympic Ambition programme in the summer.

Of the 16 men only Nick Catlin and Gordon McIntyre have previous AYOF experience having been part of the side that won Silver two years ago after losing out to Australia in the final on penalty strokes after a 2-2 draw. However, the squads experience is bolstered by travelling reserve Tom Millington who also competed in Sydney in 2007 and Kenny Bain, who was a reserve that year.

In a youthful mens squad, where more than half of the athletes will still be eligible for the AYOF in 2011, Nick Catlin is the only full GB senior international having played against South Africa and Canada in January 2008 in Durban.

Mens Head Coach Bobby Crutchley has been pleased with how his young side has come through the selection process. The squad have shown a good work ethic which will stand them in good stead for these challenges, he says.

The AYOF gives potential senior GB players the opportunity to experience some of the pressures of the real thing, having to adapt to extreme travel and climate demands along with playing against some of the best under 21 teams in the world.

Speaking about his womens squad, Head Coach Craig Parnham is in no doubt as to the test that awaits them in Sydney. The Australian Youth Olympic Festival offers the squad a fantastic opportunity to experience a number of new situations. For the majority, playing competitive matches outside of Europe will be a first. The experience of playing against different opposition, all with differing styles and tactics, will help in their development and hopefully their progression to senior national teams and ultimately the pride of representing GB at future Olympic Games.

For a number of the squad, playing hockey for Great Britain runs in the family. Ross Stotts brother Niall played for Great Britain at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was an accredited reserve in Beijing; Simon Faulkners father David was a member of the 1988 Olympic Gold medal-winning side in Seoul; Chris Greggs father Terry played for Great Britain at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich while Lewis Prossers father Dave also played for Great Britain.

On Monday 15 December the squads will travel to Terrassa, just north of Barcelona, for a four day training camp and a series of matches against Spain U21s. They will then depart for the preparation camp at Macquarie University, Sydney, on Thursday 1 January ahead of the AYOF, which runs from 14-18 January. Great Britains fixtures for the tournament are yet to be confirmed.

As well as the athletes, Great Britain Hockey is sending two young umpires to officiate at the 2009 AYOF. Both Hannah Sanders and Paul Walker have risen through the ranks of England Hockeys National Young Umpire Promising List while Paul was the 2007 Young Umpire of the Year.

The purpose of the AYOF is to provide future Olympic athletes with an environment reminiscent of an Olympic Games and to promote the Olympic ideals of friendship, solidarity and fair play. Of Great Britain Hockeys 2007 youth teams, Ashley Jackson, Laura Bartlett and Charlotte Craddock all went on to compete at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In order to mirror Olympic rules the two additional athlete places are given accreditation as travelling reserves in case of injury.

Despite hail and thunder in Belfast which delayed the start by 30 minutes, Scotlands women gave the Irish another hot reception by winning the final test match 2-1, thus completing a hat-trick of victories over their higher-ranked hosts.

The Scots took the game by the scruff of the neck right from the start, with chances falling to Holly Cram and Emily Maguire, whose efforts were well saved by the Irish goalkeeper, and Becky Merchant whose penalty corner strike was chalked off as dangerous.

But it was not until the final seconds of the opening period that Scotland finally got their noses in front. Julie Bryce drove down the right and along the by-line, and her cut back was finished off by Louise Munn.

The Irish came out with a more positive approach after the interval and Scots goalkeeper Carmin Dow had to look lively on a couple of occasions to preserve the slender lead. But when Munn was sent to the sin bin for dissent, Ireland took advantage and equalised from a penalty corner.

The setback was temporary as the Scots were back ahead within three minutes when Merchant scored with a low volley from a set-piece. The finale of the contest descended into a rather scrappy affair, with little danger to Scotland`s winning scoreline.

Manager Lynne Dick said: "We had a point to prove, that our international ranking eight places below the Irish is far from reality, and the three victories confirmed just that.

"Over the whole weekend, we played some fast and flowing hockey and I was especially proud of the girls who have stepped up from the under-21 squad, who all played very well."

Scotlands men completed a miserable weekend of three losses to the Irish, yesterdays 2-1 defeat the closest of the three but of little consolation.

After Ireland, the Scots equalised just before half-time, Willie Marshall netting from an acute angle after Michael Christies shot was initially saved.

Ireland went ahead again soon after the restart before losing two players to yellow cards. But Scotland failed to take the penalty corner chances they gained with their superior numbers, and returned home reflecting on three consecutive defeats.

In a game played a a very high tempo Scotland were the first to strike when a crashed ball into the circle in the third minute was touched home by Chris Nelson. It did not take long for Ireland to respond with Jermyn firing home from a penalty corner in the 6th minute. Ireland expended their lead in the 20th minute when Shaw reverse hit shot was touched to the net by Mitch Darling. Scotland almost equalised but a cracking save from Ian Walker kept Ireland ahead. Second half Ireland contiuned to dominate and extended their lead in the 50th minute when fine work up the right involving Cockram, Sothern and Darling was finished expertly by Darling. In the 55th minute local boy Eugene Magee gave the keeper no chance when he fired home Irelands fourth. Scottish keeper Fulton saved Scotland on numerous occassions but finally in the 66 minute Darling smashed the ball home for his hat trick and Irelands fifth. Cockaam almost got his name on the sheet following a Darling cross but his touch saw the ball shave the cross bar. Walker made some fine saves for Ireland in the final 5 mnutes as Scotland tried desperately to get one back.

The ladies though lost for the second day in a row.

In the second of the three test match a very tight opening half with Scotland just shading things with a 3-2 penalty corner count. Ireland keeper Emma Gray earning her second cap made some fine saves during this period Ireland started second stronghy with McDonough making a lovely run from the half way intio the circle but her pass was not picked up at the far post. Harshly awarded penalty stroke was converted by Emma Rochlin to put Scotland one up in the 55 minute. In the final quarter Ireland pushed very hard for the equaliser but were unable to break down the scottish defence. Coach gene Muller was upbeat after the game despite losing the second test It was a better peformance today although we are still lacking in set plays some of our younger players are really starting to look comfortable at international level.

Honours even in Ireland Scotland series

In the first of the three test match series Ireland women lost 3-1 to Scotland. Ireland got off to the perfect start forcing a short corner in the first minute but the keeper made a fine save. Ireland continued to press and from a lovely through ball by Emma Clarke Jenny McDonough made her way into the circle and fnished in fine style with a cracking shot to the far corner Ireland 1-0 in the third minute. In the 10th minute Ireland conceded a free and from just outside the circle a deft touch from Linda Clement saw Scotland equalise. Scotland extended their lead in the 29th munute when Julie Bryce put them in front from play after her initial shot had come off the crossbar. Second half Scotland forced a series of corners in the first 5 minutes but the Ireland defence held firm. Ireland forced their own series of corners, 5 in all, in a ten minute period but good defence kept Ireland out. Ireland changed their keeper in the 55th mnute and within a minute Ireland conceded a third when Louise Munn scored from open play. A fine shot from Shirley McCay in the 64th minute was just wide of the target. Final score Ireland 1-3 Scotland.

In the Mens game Ireland dominated the opening period forcing two penalty corners one wide from Jermyn and the other forcing a fine save from the Scottish keeper. Scotland had some chances of their own with Harte called upton to make some fine saves and in the 29 minute Scotland had their first corner which Harte saved well. Scotland took the lead in the 32nd minute when Kenneth Bain scored a cracking goal with a reverse strike giving keeper Harte no chance. Second half Ireland forced their third corner of the game in the 38 minute and this time Jermyn made no mistake scoring with a low drag to equalise. Eugene Magee was causing anxious moments for the Scottish defence and in the 55th minute Phelie Maguire was fouled in the circle and awarded a penalty stoke which Jermyn converted to put Ireland into a deserved 2-1 lead. This proved to be a turning point in the game as two Scottish players received yellow cards one for the offence and the captain for the subsequent dissent to the umpire. Ireland were in total control and in the 60 minute Timmy Cockram scored from another penalty corner.

Ireland's Senior Men and Women's hockey teams will go head to head with Scotland over three days this weekend at Havelock Park in Banbridge Hockey Club.

These games will afford newly appointed Men's Coach Paul Revington the opportunity to see a number of athletes in action as he makes the trip over although he does not officially start his position until early next year. Commenting on the upcoming series was Director of High Performance Dave Passmore 'These matches come at the perfect time after Paul's appointment. He will be able to view just about all the most talented Irish players over the course of the matches and observe them carefully on and off the pitch'.

Revington was clearly excited at the prospect of spending some time in Ireland commenting "I am really looking forward to a very important initial ten days in Ireland and within Irish Hockey circles. Outside of watching a few league games, meeting key role players involved within the High Performance end of Hockey, watching the squad play games against Scotland and experiencing both Dublin and Belfast as hockey centres - I will, most importantly, get to meet the players personally for the first time. "

Women's coach Muller who has not announced the exact teams for each match has selected a squad of nineteen from which to work with over the three matches, commenting earlier on his selection he said These matches against Scotland are ideal for us at the start of a new international hockey season. Our matches against them are always very competitive, so this will be a very good test for the individual players and the team. These matches come at a time where were are looking to settle on a squad of players to work with going into 2009.

Muller's selection also sees a number of key players left out due to injury or sabbatical from hockey.

This was oh so easy for Rotterdam who completely outclassed their Scottish opponents in the 1st quarter of this game. They were 4-0 up in the first period, including a hat-trick from 20 year old New Zealand star Simon Child. They continued to dominate possession but could only add to their tally in the last period of play.

Western are out and Reading and Rotterdam will meet tomorrow to determine who will proceed to the 2nd round as group winners.

Earlier Three Rock Rovers produced another good performance and secured another draw and another point in their group. Their fate lies out of their hands now and will depend on the outcome of tomorrows match between Terrassa and Leuven

EuroHockey League day 1

As clubs from some of the lower ranked European countries meet some of the super clubs the results are usually predicable and that is mostly how things went yesterday.

Three Rock Rovers got the best result of the day holding mighty Terrassa to a 0-0 draw. They played well and could have won the game if they had on their shooting boots.

Kelburne and Lille both started well and took early leads but eventually succumbed to their more illustrious rivals. The all British game went Readings way but it lacked the fire of a normal Scotland England contest. Wildcats will now struggle to get through to round 2 as they will face Rotterdam today.

It all started so well for Kelburne when teenager Kenny Bain shot them into a early lead with an 8th minute PC finish. They withstood tremendous pressure from Waterloo throughout the half and went into half time with their lead intact.

However the Ducks swapped their webbed feet for shooting boots in the second third period and were 2-1 up by the interval. They shot in another two in the last quarter to finish comfortable 4-1 winners and shatter the Scots. Ducks look strong contenders for qualification from group F.
