Men's Irish Junior Cup Final

Annadale II 2 - 3 Pembroke Wanderers II

Pembroke Wanderers II men's team were today crowned Irish Junior Cup Champions in a tightly fought battle with Annadale.

Annadale took the lead early on when Captain Connor Allison scored from an open play goal in only the second minute of play. Pembroke had to wait until two minutes before half time to equalise when their Captain Dougie Goode scored in the 33rd minute.

Pembroke doubled their lead just one minute into the second half through Maurice Elliot before he converted once again in the 56th minute to give his side a two goal cushion. Annadale continued to fight but it was too little too late when they clawed back a goal in the 69th minute of play with a Paul Jackson Goal.

Railway Union 1 Louise McDermott

In mixed weather conditions in UCD, Glenanne took on Railway Union II's in the Final of the ESB Irish Junior Cup.

The game opened up with a very early goal in the second minute from Glenanne, whom on their first visit into Railway's circle scored with a well taken chance by Paula Fitzpatrick. Despite trailing one nil early on Railway had a number of opportunites to equalise including three short corners, but a strong defense marshalled by Ali Geoffroy kept Glenanne's sheet clean. Glenanne doubled their lead in the 18th minute from a superb opportunistic goal taken again by Paula Fitzpatrick whose excellent reflex provided Glenanne with their second goal and a two nil lead at half time.

The second half presented both sides with goal scoring opportunities but the finishing touches evaded the Railway Union's sticks with shots going wide and crosses not finding a player on the end, the big difference was Glenanne's ability to put the shots away.

Their third goal came in the 44th minute with Ciara Nugent on the end of an excellent penalty corner before a great pass by Captain Audrey McCormack in the 56th minute found its way to Rebecca O'Reilly for Glenanne's forth goal of the day. In the 61st minute Kate O'Connor who had just made her way onto the pitch found herself with plenty of space at the top of the Railway Circle for a direct shot which left the keeper stranded.

Railway still fought to the bitter end and will have to console themselves with one late goal in the 70th minute courtesy of Captain Louise McDermott.

ESB Irish Senior Cup Final 2008 (Women's)

Pegasus 2 Claire McMahon x 2

Ballymoney 1 Nikki McCaughern

The 2008 ESB Irish Senior Cup saw the clash of two Ulster teams, Ballymoney and Pegasus.

The game started off with an even tone with the opening moments providing goal scoring opportunities for both sides but it was Pegasus who were first to convert in the 10th minute when an excellent side step from Speers opened up a pass into the circle for Claire McMahon to latch onto for a splendid strike.

Despite winning six penalty corners, the Ballymoney defense marshaled by Ireland's McKeever held strong and the first half closed out one nil to the reigning champions Pegasus.

The second half saw some great goal mouth action as both sides created chances in the circle in this fast paced match. Ballymoney found their equaliser in the 41st minute when Ballymoney won their first and only corner of the match an excellent execution found Nikki McCaughern on the end for a great strike to draw the game level at one all.

The draw was short-lived and Pegasus responded two minutes later when McMahon found herself in a one on one with the keeper as she rounded the keeper for a top class finish into the roof of the net to give her side a 2-1 lead.

Ballymoney were given a golden opportunity to equalise once again when awarded a penalty stroke, which experienced McVicker uncharacteristically put high and wide. Ballymoney continued to pile on the pressure for the closing moments of the match but today was not their day and Pegasus left worthy champions.
